Remember, OurSeniors.org is a nonprofit!

Remember, OurSeniors.org is a nonprofit!

Founded five years ago, OurSeniors.org was started out of inspiration from a retired nurse that visited nursing homes and spoke words from the Bible to provide comfort to those living there. The OurSeniors.net team got involved by gathering gifts, blankets, jackets, stuffed animals and cookies to make them feel cared for. This has continued for many years and this past Christmas, the team took over 200 blankets and gifts along with over 500 cookies made by our friend and featured Amazing Senior, Barbara Andersen. While facilities try their best to care for residents, they are not able to spend all their time on any one person at a time. This leaves room for feelings of abandonment and resentfulness. OurSeniors.org tries to change this by visiting seniors in facilities...

With each passing day, time flies by and before you know it, the grandkids are graduating college, getting married and you have great-grandkids! Connecting with family members can be a bit of work now and then, especially when the holidays are a few months away and there’s not much of a reason to talk other than to schedule upcoming plans. Sometimes, it’s easier to use a birthday or anniversary as an excuse to strike up a conversation. We think that right now (while it’s still summer) is a great time to reach out. Ask about any recent vacations, try to share photos of fun things that have been happening and see about future vacations or plans so you can feel more a part of their lives....

What to know about the Delta Variant

What to know about the Delta Variant

Just as the U.S. was beginning to recover from the pandemic and vaccinations reached all-time highs, the new Delta variant started to hit hard, especially Florida. There is a good amount of misinformation out there and what we are seeing in the news is different than what our nurse and doctor friends and family members are telling us is happening. The truth is this new variant affects people in different ways. Children are getting sick and the vaccinated are getting sick. It spreads much faster than the previous virus. All of this new information mixed with the old information that we have learned is becoming more and more confusing. Do we have to wear masks again? Do we need to stockpile hand sanitizer again? Will there be a booster shot? There are lots of questions we are having at the moment. Of course, we always recommend looking to the CDC for any new guidelines in your state as well as your local government for new...
