Who and what are the Lions Club?

OurSeniors Radio hosted by Julian G. Cantillo is honored to have Treasurer of the Daytona Halifax Area Lions Club – Mr. Richard Johnson. Richard Johnson, 70, was born in San Francisco, CA and raised there and in Minneapolis, MN and New York City. He is the Treasurer of the Daytona Halifax Area Lions Club, for whom he is directing a Children’s Early Vision Screening Initiative. Although his education and training is in Fine Arts Painting and Drawing Instruction and, though technically retired, his chief goal is to create an ongoing screening program for maintaining or improving the visual acuity of every kindergarten age student in Volusia County. In these pursuits, Richard is in step with every other Lion everywhere in the world. Lions have a long tradition of serving the blind and visually impaired – a commitment Lions expect to continue indefinitely. Most especially, Lions work to prevent avoidable blindness (which accounts for 75% of blindness), as well as to improve the quality of life for those who were blind or otherwise visually impaired at birth. Lions, with the support of Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) are also working to reduce the prevalence of diabetes. Our approach begins with blood glucose screening and detection. By the time it’s diagnosed the majority have had the disease for five years. Obviously, the work is urgent. We serve.
