The Amendment 3 Voting Scare

Blaise Ingoglia, Florida Chief Financial Officer: The biggest obstacle is going to be misinformation and scare tactics.

Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor: My question is, is there anything else that can be proposed that would actually result in thousands of dollars of savings every year for taxpayers.

Will this have a negative impact on the economy?

Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor: But here’s the thing, I think with the property tax the good thing about it is people have more money in their pocket you are going to have a better economy locally because they’re going to be able to breathe, they’re going to be able to spend money/invest. It’s going to end up having a very positive effect going forward.

Blaise Ingoglia, Florida Chief Financial Officer: The more we can save, the more we can put in people’s pockets the better off we’re going to be. If we pull that money out of the hands of bureaucrats who think the taxpayers are an endless atm and we actually put them in the hands of taxpayers we’re going to have a lot more economic prosperity.

But I heard this would affect the funding of police and other service-related employment?

Blaise Ingoglia, Florida Chief Financial Officer: I’m telling the voters, you’re going to be able to pay for essential services. Anyone who is saying that they are not just trying to scare you into voting against your own best interest. Property tax relief, making it more affordable. All so they could keep their large, bloated budgets.

Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor: Now anytime you do anything that benefits taxpayers, you’re going to have people come from the woodwork saying “oh you’re not going to have any more police, not going to be any more schools. Now obviously that’s not true.

Interviewer: Local governments continue to tell us that they’re worried about the most basic of services, fire, police, public schools. They’re concerned that losing that tax base is going to have an impact.

Blaise Ingoglia, Florida Chief Financial Officer: No what they’re concerned about is actually having to be good stewards of the taxpayer dollars, that’s what they’re worried about.

So why the call for change, what’s wrong with the current homestead exemption?

The issue with homestead is the original homestead exemption of 25k, that was representing about a 3rd of your home. Shielding it from property taxation. Today with the new homestead exemptions, shields only about 9 or 9.5%. So people are feeling the pinch of increased property taxes and it’s leading to an affordability crisis in the state of Florida.

Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor: But anyone who has purchased a home in Florida in the last 10 years, they’re definitely getting hit, the valuations go up. The trim notices that people are getting, some of the notices about the taxes. People are saying it even this year, seeing it go up. Now people are ripe for some relief.

What can you do about it? Get out there and vote, this November 3rd!
