Who Are We?
The Florida Bureau of Braille and Talking Books Library Services is part of a state agency working in cooperation with the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, under the U.S. Library of Congress. It is administered through the Division of Blind Services, Florida Department of Education. Located in Daytona Beach, it provides services to the entire state, with the participation of nine Sub-regional Libraries.
Our Free Services
The Library distributes books and magazines in braille and audio formats to individuals who are not able to read standard print due to visual impairment, physical disability, or certifiable reading disability. These items are delivered through the U.S. Postal service at no cost to the Library user, or they may be downloaded. Our collection includes English and Spanish titles as well as other languages. The service also includes the long-term loan of a digital player for listening to audio books, including amplified headphones for those with hearing loss; and it is free to any adult or child who qualifies. Institutional membership is also available for schools, rehabilitation centers, ALF’s and ILF’s, hospitals, medical practices, etc. – any institution that regularly deals with persons who may be eligible for Library services.
