Hey seniors! The 2020 Census is not over! If you haven’t filled it out yet, do it now. You can complete the 2020 Census online, over the phone, or through mailed self-responses. The census only comes around every decade. Its results will influence policymaking and fair political representation. Regardless of your income, age, race, or documentation status, you matter, and you count. The data collected is confidential and is not shared with any other agencies or businesses. The U.S. Census Bureau is bound by law to protect your answers, including each employee who takes a life oath to protect your personal information.
The information collected will help:
- Reapportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives
- Secure funding for communities in case of natural disasters (hello hurricane season)
- Redesign congressional, state, and local district boundaries
- Inform federal funding for over 100 programs (like Medicaid, adult education, highway construction, and housing assistance for older adults)
- First-responders understand how much to prepare for during emergencies or catastrophes
- Serve as a population database for future national surveys
- Influence the building of new roads, hospitals, schools, and other public sector investments
- Small business owners understand how the population is changing and adjust
Seniors make it a priority to fill out the 2020 Census and spread the word. Let your friends and family know through social media. By December, the Census Bureau will report the apportionment counts to the President and Congress. So do your part, fill out the 2020 Census online, or by calling 1-844-330-2020. The Census provides you fair representation, and it only rolls around every ten years, so make sure you take it. Do not miss out on this chance!
