Celebrating Memorial Day and Taking in Its Meaning

Memorial Day stands as a reminder that freedom comes at a price, one that countless soldiers throughout history have willingly paid. This holiday allows us to take a moment of reflection. Each fallen hero has a unique story, and behind each story lies a family whose lives were forever changed. It is crucial that we extend our gratitude and support to these families, offering comfort and reassurance that their loved ones’ sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Together, we can create a sense of unity and strength, showing our support and admiration for those whom this holiday is for. If you want to celebrate Memorial Day, some of the most popularly known ways to celebrate are to;

  • Place flags, flowers, or insignia on veteran’s graves,

  • Lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery or your local cemetery,

  • Reach out to friend or family member who has lost a loved one,

  • Attend religious services or public ceremonial events!

You can also host your own event or tune in to events digitally. We also want you to keep in mind other important times of recognition like Older Americans Month. It’s another time of appreciation but specifically for older Americans both past and present and the contributions that they have made to our communities still and always will hold a lot of weight.
