9-11 is not a holiday, but it should be a time of commemoration and remembrance. Stop and think of the innocent people who lost their lives in this attack. These defenseless women and men were not wearing uniforms or carrying weapons. They were simply going about their normal, daily business when their lives were ended by an enemy they did not even know existed.
At the same time, we take exceptional pride in the police and fire fighters who fought so bravely to save lives and salvage what they could from the ruins of the 9-11 attack. Our professional military tracked down and killed the vicious criminal who perpetrated this infamous deed, and in so doing became the most respected arm of the federal government. We salute them today, as we should do every day.
