Did you know 55% of adults between 60 and 64 work part-time, and over 31% of seniors work full time? Returning to the workforce can be fun. You do not have to take a job you hate or focus on landing a responsibility for the money. Explore your options! You are living in the best years of your life, your golden years. Keep an open mind and research new fields or activities that excite you. Do not step back into the routine of an old job because it’s easy. Search for something enjoyable that interests you. You may be thinking, “I can’t start working again. No one will hire me because I’m old!” Well, I’m happy to inform you that the workplace is changing. Companies are evolving. By aiming to be inclusive, companies now offer flexible options, especially for seniors. Even during this pandemic, there are plenty of remote options available for retirees. Visit the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity site to find a list of senior resources, designed to help you land a job.
Word of the wise, if you already claim Social Security and haven’t reached full retirement age, some of your benefits may be withheld. You will also be subject to the Social Security Administration’s Retirement Earnings Test. Yet, working part-time can still add to your retirement income without pushing you over the earning threshold. For example, a part-time job at Target that earns $15/hour can add an extra $15,000 to your annual retirement income. If you go back to work after your full retirement age, you will not be subject to the retirement earnings test. So, if you want to get out of the house or want to earn money at home, there are plenty of excellent options. Click here to get started.
