Here are some best practices to help protect your Debit and Credit Cards from Fraud and Theft.

Monitor your accounts

Make sure that you are regularly checking your statements and online banking activity for suspicious or unauthorized transactions.
Review bank and credit card statements regularly and look for any unauthorized charges or suspicious activity.
Report your unauthorized transactions as soon as you notice them to your bank or credit card company.
Set up alerts to be notified of activity each time you use your card.
Add the telephone numbers to your banks and credit card fraud departments to your contact list. This can be a valuable tool when a credit card company or your bank calls to verify suspicious transactions.
Lock your card when not in use. Many Credit Card companies and Banks have this option through their online portal.

Safeguard your physical cards

Always keep your cards in a secure location and avoid leaving them unattended.
Memorize your PIN number and NEVER share it with anyone nor write it down.
Protect your wallet and cards with RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) blocking cards or card sleeves.
Only keep those debit or credit cards in your wallet or purse, that you plan to use that day. Make sure your other cards are stored in a safe place with your other valuables when not in use.

Practice safety habits when using online sources

Be sure that you only shop on secure websites. URL’s beginning with https:// and a padlock icon confirms a secure connection.
There are many ads on Facebook, Instagram etc., that are not valid links. If you feel that you have clicked on a link that is not secure, close the app, shut down and restart your phone.
Avoid clicking on suspicious links in emails, messages, or social media posts.
Do not save card details on websites or online retailers, even if offered, unless you are using secure payment portals like PayPal or Google Pay.

Other important tips

Keep your devices updated with the latest antivirus software and security patches.
Consider using a digital wallet like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay. These offer enhanced security methods to encrypt your card information during transactions.
Report any suspected fraud immediately to your bank or credit card company. Be sure to follow their instructions.
Listen to your gut. Take an additional moment to ask yourself is this purchase safe and secure.
