Patient that walked out from Nursing Facility on July 5th is finally laid to rest

Harold Eugene Cantrell We pay our respects to Harold and the Cantrell Family Special Note: Thanks to the Clay County Florida Friends for their love, prayers and help with our family while searching for Harold since July 5th. Harold, or Hal, or PaPa as his family called him, went to be with our Lord on July 5, 2017. Harold was born on April 23, 1932, in Xenia, Illinois and lived a full life of joy interacting with family, friends, students, and community leaders. Hal is survived by his loving wife Joyce of 61 years who took great and loving care of him for many years, but devoted her entire time to his care for about the last 4 years of his life. He is survived by two sons and their spouses, Jon and Phyllis Cantrell of Green Cove Springs, and Michael and Shayla Cantrell from Ladera Ranch, California. Make A Living Will!

Make A Living Will!

You have probably heard the pious sounding advice that “everyone should have a living will.” In this case, the pious advice is absolutely correct! If any group of people is in a position to know the truth of this, it is emergency room physicians. They are on the front line in dealing with the unforeseen accidents and medical emergencies that can render a person unable to express his or her wishes. According to the American College of Emergency Physicians, in 2014, only a quarter (26%) of Americans had a living will. Other studies have placed the percentage as “high” as 36%, but that still leaves most people unprepared to deal with life’s most important decisions. Despite its name, a living will is not a way of leaving property to your family or loved ones. A living will or advanced medical directive tells medical personnel what your wishes are if you are not able to speak for yourself. It is a legal...

Finding Assisted Living is Looking Out for Our Veterans!

Recently, Finding Assisted Living published an article (“Are there any benefits that help pay for an assisted living facility”) detailing a benefit that may be available to veterans or their surviving spouses. For those who are eligible, this benefit may help to pay for the cost of an assisted living facility. When applied to the veteran himself or herself, this program is most commonly called the “Aid and Attendance” or A & A benefit. It is called the “Improved Death Pension Benefit with Aid and Attendance” entitlement when applied to a veteran’s surviving spouse. The Aid and Attendance benefit is one of the lesser known benefits available to veterans. Many veterans and even some attorneys or financial planners may not correctly understand it. Qualifying for A & A benefits does not depend on service-related injuries; it is intended for veterans and surviving spouses who require the attendance of another person to assist with routine daily functions such as eating, bathing and...

Is A 55+ Community Right for You?

Is A 55+ Community Right for You?

The popularity of 55+ communities has grown dramatically over the past few years along with America’s senior population. If you are considering a move to one of the many forms of 55+ communities available, you should investigate carefully. This is a major senior lifestyle decision and must be made carefully. Perhaps the first thing you should consider is whether you really want to leave your current home. There may be persuasive reasons for wanting to stay home instead of relocating to any of the many senior living choices available. You may be ‘grandfathered’ into a favorable real estate tax rate, your family, friends and support system may be nearby and you might be very satisfied with the in-home care or home care assistance you now receive. Or, you might simply choose the home instead option because it is a familiar place, the place you have always called home. On the other hand, the opportunity to move may seem very attractive. The house in...

FindingAssistedLiving.com adds Mr. Richard Harmon and Ms. Laurie Taylor to the Senior Transition Pro Team

Finding Assisted Living (FAL) intends to make this year’s Fourth of July an “Independence Day for America’s Seniors” and for their loved ones too. Dedicated to making the transition to senior life as easy, natural and safe as possible, FAL is assembling a team of professionals, each with specialized skills and knowledge. The FAL Senior Transition Pro Team is a network of professionals providing full, transparent, accurate and trustworthy information to help people find the senior transition option that is right for themselves and their loved ones. Transitioning into a senior lifestyle is not simple, and very few people are qualified or prepared to make all of these changes on their own. The range of choices, options and decisions can seem overwhelming. Is it time to consider an assisted living facility or is remaining ‘home instead’ still the better option? Is a nursing home or skilled nursing facility necessary, or would one of the growing number of senior apartments be ideal?...
